1. Who this policy applies to
cohero is operated by Fenkil Technologies LTD. This Backing & Gift Policy explains how voluntary gifts made through the platform are collected, held against milestones, reviewed, released and, in defined circumstances, returned. It applies whenever you give as a Backer or receive support as a Dreamer, including when the same account performs both roles.
Read this policy with the Terms of Service, Dreamer Rules, Community Guidelines and Trust & Safety. The Privacy Policy explains how payment-related information, identity information and account records are handled. Membership charges are separate from gifts and are governed by Membership & Billing Terms.
You must be at least 18 years old and use your own account with your real identity. One person may have only one account, and anonymity toward other users does not permit impersonation or false information to the platform. A person who cannot lawfully authorise a payment must not make it through another person's account.
Fenkil Technologies LTD supplies the platform and holds funds by milestone; it is not a party to the gift between the Backer and the Dreamer. This policy describes the conditions of the platform's handling of that gift and does not make the platform a recipient on behalf of a registered charity. Mandatory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded remain available.
2. What a backing means
A backing is a voluntary, unconditional gift of support to the Dreamer. It resembles crowdfunding in allowing many people to support a goal, but it is not reward-based funding: there are no promised products, services, prizes or other rewards in exchange for your money. You should give only because you wish to support the person and their stated dream.
A backing is not an investment, equity or shares, a loan, or a purchase of goods or services. It gives you no ownership of the Dreamer's business, work or assets, no profit share or interest, and no contractual right to repayment by the Dreamer. It is not a donation to a registered charity and is generally not tax-deductible.
Dreamers may offer thanks, progress reports or conversation, but they have no obligation to deliver rewards. A message suggesting guaranteed returns, repayment or a product in exchange for backing is inconsistent with this policy and should be reported. Do not rely on such a message as changing the legal nature of a backing or the platform's return rules.
The gift is unconditional in nature, but the platform does not immediately pay all money to the Dreamer. Milestone holding, review and automatic return are safeguards for handling unreleased funds, not a promise that every goal will be achieved. Your review rights apply to the share still held for you, not to amounts you already released or to other Backers' decisions.
3. How to choose and make a backing
Before backing, read the dream, its total goal, each milestone and any available updates or proof. A dream's goal is the sum of its milestones, and support is allocated across those milestones in order. Consider whether the proposed steps, supporting information and risks are understandable to you before choosing an amount.
You choose the amount to give and authorise payment through our payment partner. The minimum backing is $5, and there is no platform maximum backing amount. A payment can nevertheless be declined or delayed by a payment provider or financial institution, including for security or authorisation reasons.
The amount you choose is the amount charged for the backing; the platform fee is deducted from it, not added above it. Check the amount and currency in the payment flow before confirming. A saved dream, a chat message or an intention to give is not itself a completed paid backing.
- Review the dream and milestone sequence before paying.
- Check the USD charge, deducted fee and minimum amount.
- Use a payment method you are authorised to use and provide accurate information.
- Keep the payment confirmation and return to the platform to review milestone proof.
Dreams are reviewed by our team before going live, but approval is not an audit, endorsement or assurance of success. If a claim appears misleading or you need clarification, ask questions or report the dream rather than paying on the assumption that the platform has independently verified every statement.
4. Anonymous backing and visibility
You may choose to back anonymously. In that case, the Dreamer and the public do not see your identity as the Backer, but platform administrators can see it for operation, support, security and enforcement. Anonymous backing is not an anonymous payment relationship with the platform or our payment partner.
If you choose to chat with the Dreamer, the interaction can reveal your identity despite the anonymous backing choice. Consider what your profile and messages disclose before starting or continuing a conversation. A Dreamer may also infer who you are from information you voluntarily provide outside the platform.
Anonymity does not remove your responsibility to review proof or change the release and return rules. It also does not prevent necessary handling of payment records, dispute information or legal requests. Consult the Privacy Policy for information about access, retention and your data rights.
Do not disclose another Backer's identity or use anonymous giving to harass, threaten or manipulate a Dreamer. Users can report dreams, accounts and messages, and can block other users. Blocking affects messages and visibility but is not a payment reversal, a release decision or a request for refund.
5. The deducted platform fee and worked examples
A 15% platform fee, also called the backer deposit fee, is deducted from every backing. You pay exactly the amount you choose for the backing, and the Dreamer can receive only the balance after the deduction, subject to milestone release. The fee is never added on top of your chosen amount.
For a worked illustration only, assume the displayed 15% is 15%. If you choose to back $100, you pay $100, the fee is $15 and $85 remains available for the Dreamer's milestones. You do not pay $115, and the Dreamer does not have $100 available after the fee.
Using the same illustrative 15% assumption, a $130 backing carries a $19.50 fee and leaves $110.50 available for milestone allocation. The percentages and dollar deductions in these examples explain the calculation; the applicable fee is the 15% shown for your backing. Check that displayed fee rather than treating an example as a separate price promise.
The platform fee is non-refundable, including if some or all unreleased milestone money is returned under this policy. This applies to automatic returns and administrative refunds of unreleased funds, subject to mandatory law. A return is therefore not a reversal of the original gross backing amount.
The basic calculation is the chosen backing amount minus the platform fee, followed by allocation of the remaining balance to milestones. A later return covers the relevant remaining held amounts; it does not include amounts already released or the retained fee. Your bank's conversion costs are separate and do not increase the amount held for the Dreamer.
6. USD charges, conversion and payment security
Backing payments are charged in US dollars, or USD. Amounts displayed in EUR, CNY or INR are approximate conversions for convenience and are not a commitment to charge your account in those currencies. Review the USD amount before authorising the transaction, especially if your payment account uses another currency.
Your bank or card issuer may apply its own exchange rate, foreign transaction charge or conversion fee. These costs are outside the platform's deducted fee, and your statement may show a different local-currency equivalent from an approximate display. Ask your payment provider about its rates and fees if the local cost matters to your decision.
Our payment partner handles card details, and cohero never stores full card numbers. You must provide accurate payment information and obtain any necessary authorisation from the payment method's owner. Never send full card numbers, security codes or banking passwords to a Dreamer or through chat.
Where a return is made, it is sent to the original payment method where possible. Changes in exchange rates or your provider's treatment of fees can mean that the local-currency amount credited differs from the local-currency amount originally debited. The platform does not promise to compensate for currency movements or third-party conversion charges.
For your safety, keep all conversations and agreements on cohero. Never send or accept payments outside cohero, even if someone asks. This helps protect both Dreamers and Backers and gives us a record to review if something goes wrong. Keeping activity on cohero does not mean that we can guarantee the outcome of a dream or settle every disagreement between users, but the messages and payment records held on the platform can be considered when you report a concern.
7. Holding and allocating milestone funds
Money from each completed backing is held by the platform and allocated across the dream's milestones in order. The deducted platform fee is not part of those held milestone funds. A milestone allocation is an amount awaiting the relevant proof and your release decision, not an immediately available payment to the Dreamer.
Dreamers must prove milestones in their stated order. This sequence allows you to consider progress step by step rather than authorising the entire gift balance to be paid out at once. Do not assume that a later milestone can be released simply because it appears more important than an earlier unproven step.
Each Backer controls release of their own allocated share for a milestone. Another Backer's approval does not release your share, and your refusal to release does not reverse somebody else's decision. The amount still held for you may therefore differ from the amounts held for other people supporting the same dream.
Milestone holding is a platform process, sometimes described as milestone escrow. That description does not promise interest, investment custody, deposit insurance or protection against every financial or operational risk. Backing money is not a savings account, and you should not give on the assumption that holding funds guarantees either successful completion or immediate access to cash.
8. Proof, review and requests for information
The Dreamer submits proof for a milestone using photos, documents, a description or a combination of these. Review that proof against the milestone as described, including whether the evidence meaningfully supports the claimed progress. You are not required to treat the submission of a file alone as proof that a goal has been achieved.
For each relevant milestone you may release your share or request more information. Make information requests specific, reasonable and related to the milestone, such as asking how a document shows completion or requesting an explanation of a claimed result. Do not demand unrelated personal records, unsafe conduct or benefits that were never part of the gift.
A request for more information is not a release. If you still have not released the milestone within 14 days after proof was submitted, the automatic return rule applies. Do not assume that asking a question, receiving a reply, starting a chat or requesting revised evidence pauses or restarts that window.
Uploaded proof is stored privately and shown through expiring or signed links. A link expiring does not itself establish that a milestone failed, nor does it extend your review period. If you cannot open evidence or use the review controls, contact hello@coheroapp.com promptly and explain the problem without sending sensitive payment credentials.
Dreamers must not use false, altered or misleading evidence, and Backers must not use review rights to demand rewards, repayment or private favours. Report suspected manipulation under Trust & Safety. Our team may investigate reported conduct, but a report by itself is not a release, a refund or a guarantee that an investigation will finish within your review window.
9. Releasing funds and what becomes final
When you release your share for a milestone, you authorise that money to be paid out to the Dreamer. Released money is final and cannot be refunded through the ordinary platform return process. Read the proof carefully and check that you are acting on the intended milestone before confirming release.
A release is not reversible merely because you later change your mind, dislike an update, end a conversation or disagree with the Dreamer's future choices. A later failure of the dream does not turn an earlier release into a refundable payment. The same applies if a later milestone is not completed or you decide not to support it.
The non-refundable items are the deducted platform fee and money already released to the Dreamer. Money still held may be returned only through the applicable automatic return rule or an administrative refund described below, subject always to mandatory legal rights. The existence of held money does not give you an unrestricted cancellation right over an otherwise completed gift.
Release is your decision about your share, not a certification by cohero that the Dreamer's evidence is complete or that future progress is certain. If you suspect fraud after release, report it with relevant details so we can consider protective or enforcement action. Reporting does not create a promise that released money can be recovered or reimbursed.
10. The automatic return rule and worked example
If you do not release a milestone within 14 days after proof was submitted, your unreleased money for that milestone and all later milestones is returned automatically. The platform retains the 15% already deducted from your original backing. Amounts you released for earlier milestones remain with the Dreamer and are not included in the return.
The trigger is the passage of the review window without release, not proof that the Dreamer acted wrongly. Choosing to take no action can therefore result in return of the remaining held balance, even if the Dreamer considers the evidence sufficient. To continue supporting that milestone through payout, you must actually release within the review window.
For example, you give $130 to a dream with seven milestones. Assume solely for this illustration that 15% is 15%: cohero keeps $19.50 and $110.50 is allocated across the milestones. You release milestones 1–3 but do not release milestone 4 within 14 days after its proof was submitted.
Your remaining held amounts for milestones 4–7 are then returned automatically. The return equals $110.50 less the amounts you already released for milestones 1–3; it is not $130 and it does not include the $19.50 fee. The exact return depends on the actual milestone allocations, so the example does not assume that all seven milestones have equal values.
An automatic return instruction and a credit appearing on your bank statement are not necessarily simultaneous. Payment processing and your financial institution can affect when a credit becomes visible, and we do not promise a particular banking completion time. Contact hello@coheroapp.com if a return appears missing, identifying the relevant backing and milestone without providing full card details.
11. Administrative refunds and abandoned dreams
Administrators can refund a dream's unreleased funds to Backers, for example where there is fraud, a rules breach or abandonment of the dream. This power concerns money still held by the platform and does not make already released money refundable. The deducted platform fee is retained, subject to mandatory law.
We may review reports, dream activity, submitted proof and relevant account records when deciding whether protective action is appropriate. We may seek an explanation or additional information from the Dreamer or affected Backers. An allegation is not itself a finding, and sending a report does not guarantee a particular enforcement or refund outcome.
If you believe a dream has been abandoned, describe the missed steps and available evidence rather than assuming that a temporary lack of updates proves abandonment. Do not harass the Dreamer or try to obtain a refund by threats, public disclosure of personal information or demands for unrelated compensation. Use the reporting tools or contact hello@coheroapp.com.
Where possible, administrative refunds go to the original payment method. If that method is no longer available, contact support so that the situation can be reviewed with our payment partner; do not arrange an unofficial substitute refund through chat. Any alternative handling must be lawful and must not expose another person's payment information.
12. Failed payments, chargebacks and disputes
A failed or declined payment is not a completed paid backing and does not make the attempted amount available for a Dreamer's milestones. Check the payment status before trying again so that a delayed confirmation is not mistaken for failure. If you see an unexpected charge or apparent duplicate, preserve the transaction reference and contact hello@coheroapp.com.
Our payment partner or your financial institution may decline a payment for authorisation, security or other processing reasons. We cannot guarantee that a particular payment method will be accepted or that a failed attempt can be completed. Do not bypass a decline by using someone else's details without permission or by creating additional accounts.
If you believe a transaction is unauthorised or incorrect, notify your payment provider promptly and contact us with the relevant facts. Nothing here prevents you from using payment-provider dispute procedures or rights available under applicable law. A chargeback is handled under the payment system's rules and is distinct from an automatic return of held milestone funds.
We may provide relevant transaction, account and release records to our payment partner or the institutions handling a dispute, consistently with the Privacy Policy and applicable law. Do not knowingly submit false dispute claims or seek duplicate recovery through both a refund and a chargeback. If a credit has already been received through another route, tell support so the records can be reconciled.
A dispute or chargeback can affect whether related money remains available for a milestone or payout. We may investigate related misuse and take proportionate account or dream action under the Terms of Service and Trust & Safety. No provision of this policy guarantees that a payment provider will resolve a dispute in a particular party's favour.
13. Taxes, personal risk and no guarantee of success
Dreamers are responsible for assessing, reporting and paying their own taxes on gifts received, including any obligations arising in their circumstances. Calling a payment a gift on the platform does not determine its tax treatment in every jurisdiction. Keep appropriate records and seek independent advice where the treatment is uncertain.
Backings are generally not tax-deductible and are not donations to a registered charity. A payment confirmation is evidence of a transaction, not a charitable tax receipt or advice about a deduction. Backers must assess any personal reporting or other tax obligations that apply to their giving.
Dreams can involve uncertain costs, changing circumstances, personal setbacks and plans that do not succeed. Neither team review nor milestone proof guarantees the truth of every claim, future performance or achievement of the dream. Do not give money you cannot afford to lose once released, or rely on anticipated repayment, financial returns or rewards.
cohero provides the platform and the handling processes described here, not insurance against dishonesty, disappointment or project failure. We do not promise that reporting, review or enforcement will recover released funds. These limitations do not exclude liability or consumer remedies that applicable law does not allow us to exclude.
14. Your responsibilities, policy changes and contact
Backers must keep their accounts secure, provide accurate information, review proof in time and use payment methods lawfully. Keep access to your account and check relevant in-app notices rather than relying solely on email. A missed notice does not itself release money or replace the automatic return rule.
Use reports and support requests responsibly and provide relevant evidence without unnecessary personal information about other people. Do not make off-platform payment arrangements expecting the platform's milestone controls to apply, and do not offer to buy a release decision or threaten a Dreamer. Communications and enforcement are subject to the Community Guidelines and Trust & Safety.
For questions about a fee, proof review, release, return, suspected error or administrative decision, contact hello@coheroapp.com. Include the dream or transaction reference, a concise explanation and the outcome you seek, but never include full card numbers or security codes. You may ask us to review a decision and supply additional relevant evidence; a review request does not suspend a deadline or promise a different outcome.
We may update this policy and will notify you of material changes in the app or by email in advance. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance, subject to mandatory law; an update does not override rights that cannot lawfully be changed. The English version prevails if language versions conflict, without limiting mandatory protections applicable to you.
This policy is governed by the laws of the country in which Fenkil Technologies LTD is registered, and disputes are subject to the courts of that country. Mandatory consumer protection rights of your home country are preserved, including any non-excludable rights concerning remedies or where proceedings may be brought. Contact hello@coheroapp.com if you need help understanding how this policy applies to a particular backing.
